The adage, "You never really miss something until it's gone," is
so true, it's almost fact.
It's equally true when you wake up one morning to learn someone has
swiped your stern-drive right off the back of your boat.
McGard, the company famous for wheel locks,
also makes anti-theft lock nuts for stern- drives. With
applications for MerCruiser, Yamaha, Cobra and some Volvo-Pentas,
these locks are fully machined from hardened stainless steel. Each
features a free-spinning collar design that will turn - without
loosening the lock - if gripped with pliers, vice grips or any tool
other than the custom-fit key.
To install, replace one stern-drive
mounting bolt and replace it with the McGard lock, then tighten the
lock with the key. Each kit comes with one nut, a key and the
corresponding identification number. For safety's sake, it's a good
idea to call the toll-free number on the card and order a
replacement key in case the original is lost. Prices start at
$22.04.
